Watch out for Rick the hair guru. I was 15 minutes late for my appointment due to heavy traffic. Sadly, with no remorse, they overreacted, were rude, and continued to give me attitude throughout my visit, venting their frustration on me. There were hints of discrimination when I mentioned I was coming from South Auckland. They couldn’t care less for my explanation or my apology for the lateness.
Then I was informed that curtain bangs and face-framing styles aren't suitable for wavy hair, even though I've had these styles before. This whole ordeal could have been avoided if they weren't so petty, unprofessional, and lacked basic customer service. My experience in the salon sadly didn't align with the inclusive and welcoming atmosphere I've seen on social media about Commune and its representation for all individuals, ethnicities, and genders. I would have gladly rebooked, but instead, I was left feeling unwelcome, judged, uncomfortable, and let down. I have never faced this kind of mistreatment from any other service provider.

After driving past Gaya numerous times, today I decided to try them out. Pleased to say I left very satisfied. They delivered the haircut I wanted after showing them a photo. I am very skilled with the scissors and took my time to ensure the haircut was to your liking. It is reasonably priced and includes a hair wash. You will return here for your next haircut. Thank you. I switched to Kiara on a mates suggestion after my previous hair stylist closed shop. Being picky, finding a new hairdresser who could meet my high standards was a challenge. However, Kiara has been an excellent choice. She nails the colour, blow dry, and cuts my hair just the way I like it. I always receive heaps of compliments post-visit. The cozy and friendly vibe of the salon is another plus. Kiara and Jack are a delightful, skilled duo that I wholeheartedly recommend. I've been loyal to my hairdresser for over two years now because I struggle to trust any other stylist not to chop off too much and allow me to maintain my long hair. I was transparent with Karen about the need for a low-maintenance keratin treatment for my performances, my time constraints, and my trust issues. Karen took her time to ensure I was comfortable, explaining her process, the reasons behind it, and how to care for my hair. Her hairdressing skills are truly remarkable. I have Cook Island Māori hair that tends to frizz, and I'm certain I was mistaken for a different ethnicity due to how smooth and glossy my hair looks now 🥰. I booked in to get a Keratin treatment on Friday afternoon at the Grey Lynn branch. The communication on arrival was very minimal. I believe that I was given hair straightening with much stronger chemicals instead of Keratin or that the treatment was not done correctly. After the first application, it was washed out very quickly, when I asked why, my hairdresser said it was because my hair was too dry. My hair was not too dry to start with and Keratin has never dried it out before. Also at the end of the treatment, the product was washed out entirely instead of only partially washed out. The hairdresser put a conditioning treatment through my hair before letting me go, because it was so dry. I should have questioned more, but it's very difficult to do so when your hair is in someone else hands. I've had to go to my regular hairdresser and buy nearly $100 of products to keep my fried hair in decent condition. It is dried out, the colour is faded, and it's frizzy in the middle with some breakage at the back. My hairdresser was surprised at how dry it now is. I attempted to leave a message on Instagram, but it did not allow this. The treatment took 4 1/2 hours instead of 3 hours. I would not recommend this hairdresser for this treatment.
