My last hairdresser shifted towns. My hair became thick and dry after 8 months without a trim. I decided to try a new stylist. I booked a dry cut with Aroha. I washed my hair and went to the salon with slightly damp hair so she could cut my medium texture 2b-3b curl type. I showed her pictures and specifically asked for long layers without thinning during the consultation. She listened and mentioned that thinning can lead to frizz in curly/wavy hair. Unfortunately, during the cut, she started using thinning shears about 2/3 of the way through. She said it was just to frame my face, but then proceeded to thin out the bottom. Afterward, she straightened it with a dryer and round brush. She continued to thin with regular shears from the midsection down. In conclusion, it would be a nice cut if my hair was STRAIGHT. However, on my natural WAVY/CURLY hair, it turned out far from nice. I now have a frizzy mushroom/jellyfish look. My experience might be a tad different from others as I came in as a hair model for the wonderful Harper.
She displayed her vision and made sure I was comfortable with it throughout the process, asking for my input, even though I was there as a model for her to have full creative freedom.
She crafted such a stunning look and kept me well informed on how to care for my hair properly after transitioning from dark brown to blonde. I was invited to come back as a model for another style which was also fantastic! And once again, she ensured I was comfortable with it throughout the entire process!
Later on, I was given the choice to change my hair to anything I desired after my time as a hair model, and I returned to my natural hair colour, the colour match is incredible! No distinction between the previously blonde hair and regrowth!!
I had never been to a salon before to get my hair done, and Harper and the crew made it such a wonderful experience 🥰About

I popped in wanting a fringe, but the whole thing turned into a total flop.
First off, I was taken aback when the barber started straightening my hair instead of the usual wet cut.
As he snipped away at my fringe, I noticed it wasn't coming out straight as I'd asked. When I voiced my disappointment and clearly said I didn't want my hair straightened, he seemed lost and resorted to using the iron to create waves.
Things went downhill from there. My fringe was all wonky, and despite him saying it would settle, it didn't. The whole fringe stuck up, making me look daft.About

Watch out for Rick the hair guru. I was 15 minutes late for my appointment due to heavy traffic. Sadly, with no remorse, they overreacted, were rude, and continued to give me attitude throughout my visit, venting their frustration on me. There were hints of discrimination when I mentioned I was coming from South Auckland. They couldn’t care less for my explanation or my apology for the lateness.
Then I was informed that curtain bangs and face-framing styles aren't suitable for wavy hair, even though I've had these styles before. This whole ordeal could have been avoided if they weren't so petty, unprofessional, and lacked basic customer service. My experience in the salon sadly didn't align with the inclusive and welcoming atmosphere I've seen on social media about Commune and its representation for all individuals, ethnicities, and genders. I would have gladly rebooked, but instead, I was left feeling unwelcome, judged, uncomfortable, and let down. I have never faced this kind of mistreatment from any other service provider.
