We popped in around 8:15pm on a Wednesday evening and were welcomed by a cheerful staff member who seated us promptly. There was a private larger group on one side of the eatery but that didn't affect the service at all. We were a party of 4, travelers from abroad and we had heard about Palate and it lived up to the hype! The lamb was superb, a generous serving with a variety of vegetables and sauce on the plates. We also tried the venison tongue cheeks since we had heard this dish had won an award, it was very smoky yet incredibly tender. The fresh Paua were delectable, the fish, and portabello mushrooms were all fantastic and full of flavor. The overall atmosphere of the eatery was delightful and serene too. Highly recommend this place as our group truly savored all the unique flavors and top-notch service!
Had a splendid meal last night to celebrate our Wedding anniversary. Our first visit to the new venue, while it's stunning, polished, and fresh it lacks the same opulent ambiance, however, the cuisine and service by Gemma more than compensated for it and we will certainly be back soon. Kudos to the chef and Gemma for looking after us so well. Surpassed our expectations. Finest cuisine in Wellington and likely the finest Paua we've had in a restaurant in New Zealand. Thank you.
The cuisine was outstanding, every course was phenomenal. But... What stands out most was the dessert... Quite possibly the most exquisite dessert I've ever had. I'm not usually one for sweets, but that licorice ice-cream affogato with cointreau.... OH MY GOSH!!!!! probably, maybe, definitely, the best thing I've ever tasted!!!! Devouring it eagerly, I need more!!!! The lamb was outstanding as well.
