One aspect of my Varda learning experience that stands out is my instructor, Kahu from Varda Barbers! To be frank, without his guidance and the support of Whaea Jackie, I may have considered dropping out. Kahu is straightforward, supportive, and attentive to our needs as students. He goes above and beyond to address our concerns and find solutions. Despite his busy schedule, he patiently provides examples for those of us who may struggle with learning, particularly when it comes to mastering cutting angles. Kahu is a genuine and empathetic tutor who truly cares about our progress. And no, he didn't ask me to write this! There was a mix-up with my hair appointment, as it was scheduled for a half head treatment instead of the full head I requested. Upon arrival, I was informed that only the half head service could be accommodated due to time constraints. The handling of this situation was disappointing, and the communication could have been more polite and understanding. It felt like the blame was subtly shifted to me, which was disconcerting. The interaction with the staff, particularly the person in charge of hair extensions, was less pleasant than expected. Hey, I'm quite disappointed with the service I received at this salon. I recommended my partner to come here for a haircut as I am from India and have known James for 3 years. When we arrived at 3 pm today, James informed us that there was a 40-minute wait because there was another customer ahead of us, which was fine with us. So, my partner and I went for a walk outside and returned at 3:40 pm as instructed. However, James then told us that we couldn't be accommodated because there were more people waiting now. Being a 32-week pregnant woman, I was willing to support his business and didn't mind waiting in the winter weather, but I was turned away. What's the point of making an appointment then? It feels like a complete waste of time. This is not how business should be conducted, failing to keep promises. Hemi completely missed the mark on understanding what I wanted for my hair... I explained my expectations multiple times. I trusted him to give me a look similar to one of his assistants. Throughout the process, he kept changing the price for the color application every 15 minutes... and ended up charging me more than I've ever paid for my hair in the last 5 years, with disappointing results. I reluctantly agreed to the process as he had already applied bleach to my hair, leaving me with no other options... even after showing him images and patterns, he did what he pleased or imagined in his mind... I didn't expect an exact replica, but at least something similar. The staff is friendly, no doubt, as that's part of their job... but that doesn't justify the salon's high 4.9-star rating... please refrain from giving inaccurate ratings as it can ruin someone's hair that they have to live with after paying a hefty price... a total letdown... 😣☹️ the first image shows his work, and the second image depicts what I had hoped for.
