I reloaded my HOP card at this top-up spot and used pay wave without realizing my card was blocked. While at this Chemist, I turned on my mobile data to unblock my card. I just want to confirm if the top-up was successful, as it was a female Maori-looking New Zealander who processed the transaction after I unblocked my card. I politely requested if she could check with the guy if the top-up went through. The Maori-looking lady haughtily replied, "NO--you have your receipt." Having the receipt doesn't guarantee the top-up reflected on my card. Wanting to be sure if the top-up went through, as I don't want to drive tomorrow, I stepped outside, logged into my HOP account, and showed her the transaction, indicating no addition to my previous balance. She insisted the transaction would show up tomorrow when I tag on, which is unlikely unless the top-up is done online. Topping up at HOP machines or outlets should allow immediate card use. I had to contact HOP customer service to rectify the issue. Not good.

I approached a friendly Kiwi lady at the counter to inquire about my prescription for the next month, but she was unsure and consulted a young Chinese girl. As a Pacific Islander, she glanced at me and the prescription with a different pharmacy label, then gestured with her hand and raised her voice, "YOU SHOULD GO TO THAT PHARMACY, WE DON'T HAVE IT." I was taken aback as I felt she judged me as someone who didn't understand. So, I calmly mentioned, "I informed Middlemore to send it to your Pharmacy," and instantly her tone and demeanor shifted. The lesson here is "Don't judge a book by its cover"; even if the book is worn and in need of care, treat it with respect.
