19/8/22: I often pop in shortly after opening, so there aren't many others in the store. I come here for things like cards, wrapping paper, books, or puzzles. The staff have always been friendly and helpful, even when I'm the clueless guy who doesn't know what he's looking for. Rarely do I leave empty-handed. They're great at ordering books for me as well.
Whitcoulls Porirua....... Today, 1st November 2016, I went to this store with my two children - aged 7 and 15 months. We were looking to buy some toys. (Decided to spoil my kids.) However, I was uncomfortable with one female clerk who felt the need to follow me and my son around, watching us as if we were going to steal from the store... Smh! She did offer help, but then continued to monitor our every move. Just because I'm not a regular customer doesn't mean I'm a thief... I felt discriminated against!!!!! Is it because of my tattoos? ... My piercings? ... Oh wait - It's because I'm brown with all of the above! Yes, I said it... Some people ruin it for the rest of us... I understand that.... But we were the only brown people there, and I didn't see her treating any other customers (who were all of European descent) the same way. I am NOT racist... and I'll let you draw your own conclusions .......... We left with $50 worth of items and we won't be returning... Well played Whitcoulls Porirua, well played!
I visited whitcoulls in the month 06/2021 and was impressed with the customer service and the wide range of books available. I bought some stationery. The store had good lighting and was well-organized. Whitcoulls has an online store and offers gift cards for purchase. I highly recommend shopping here.
