Baan Thai Massage

Had the most incredible massage today! The masseur was so gentle and skilled, using fantastic techniques that left me feeling completely relaxed. It was evident that she put a lot of effort into the session. Definitely deserving of more than 5 stars! I even struck up a conversation with the mother there. I hope she enjoys her time in Rotorua with her whānau on Christmas! The cozy ambiance made me feel right at home; it was truly comforting. The chocolate treat at the end was a delightful touch. I felt a bit cheeky taking just one, should have indulged in 2 or maybe even 5. The only regret I had was not having those 4 extra chocolates from my belly. Came in for a massage, left with a new friend, a sweet treat, and a rejuvenated body.

Save your money elsewhere. My massage experience was subpar. The therapist was rather peculiar, and the room felt stuffy. She kept incessantly inquiring about pressure and chattering during the session, which was quite bothersome. I had already specified "medium" pressure beforehand; that should have sufficed. Instead, it felt like she was merely slathering oil on me for an hour, lacking any real technique or pressure. I came to alleviate the knots in my back, so a bit of discomfort is expected, and any masseuse should understand that. Improvement is necessary.

I fail to comprehend the plethora of 5-star ratings. Upon booking an appointment and arriving, the establishment appeared disorganized, unprepared, and inconvenienced by the presence of customers. I reached at 2.45pm to find the waiting area bustling with people on their lunch break - eating, conversing, and laughing loudly; the atmosphere was far from professional. Having visited numerous Thai massage parlors in Wellington over the past decade, I am accustomed to being offered a glass of water or tea upon arrival. Typically, feet are washed before the session begins, preferences for pressure and focus areas are discussed. I was deprived of this customary experience that I associate with reputable Thai massage centers. I was ushered into a room and left alone, as if assuming I had prior experience and knew the routine. The service and communication were abysmal, the worst I have encountered. I have awarded 2 stars solely for the massage itself, which was disappointingly mediocre. None of the targeted areas were addressed, and I had to request increased pressure amidst the cacophony emanating from the lunchroom - microwave beeping, traffic noise, lack of ventilation, and loud conversations. Hardly conducive to relaxation. I will not be revisiting.
