The sum I forked over clearly indicated that the pricing at the salon was more about the owner's whims than the satisfaction of the clientele. It felt as though I was speaking a foreign tongue when I relayed my desires to the stylist. She nodded as if comprehending, only to hack away at my locks like an amateur barber-in-training.
