Just wanted to take this time to show my appreciation and love to Hotspot braids and barbershop! My 2 year old & 3 year old baby’s came in yesterday for their first haircut everrrr and I can honestly say I was amazed at how patient they were although my boys were moving around & crying. I was afraid the barbers would have a difficult time with my boys but they did an awesome job. Definitely bring your toddlers here if you are also having doubts, I don’t regret choosing Hotspot braids and barbershop. I’m definitely coming here in the near future. The nails looked okay but very untidy, the gel didn't cure properly because they were in a rush. I’ve only been to this spot twice and the 2nd time I got my nails done, it was a really awful experience. The women were laughing a lot and speaking in Korean, and I knew they were talking about me while one of them was doing my nails. The woman doing my nails used the word ‘Kiwi’ and another woman was staring at me as she was talking in Korean. Talk about uncomfortable and rude. The woman doing my nails was really rough, careless and made some of my nail cuticles bleed because she was busy talking. She kept yanking my arm towards her and twisting my fingers around which was uncomfortable. It was really painful when she put acetone on my bleeding nail beds which she made raw because she’d used that small electric filing tool roughly on my nail cuticles. The other thing was I had to keep repeating the style I wanted to the nail tech doing my nails. She didn’t really listen to what I wanted on my nails when I was at the counter either. As she was doing my nails, it got really messy at the station and she wouldn’t clean it up, leaving dust all over me and my clothing. It felt really awkward knowing I was being spoken about in another language, receiving painful service, and an unprofessional environment from the workers. Visited for waxing and eyebrow threading. Asked to maintain thickness and size, but she made my eyebrows thin. Unaccustomed to this look and disliking how it appeared on my face. Additionally, wax ended up in my hair. She then suggested an upper lip treatment, which I hadn't originally requested, but agreed to threading. During the process, her fingers and nails ended up in my mouth multiple times while working around my lips. Today I had an appointment with Cathie, it was my first time there and I went in asking for a well-needed trim/tidy up with a very natural face framing. I really emphasized on the natural as my hair is long and I personally don’t like it up around my face in general but also I need to tie it up for work. The initial hair cut was great until she started pulling my hair up and trimming away around my face. She showed me what she had done and I asked her if she could start the framing a little bit higher as it was past my chin. She starts trimming away but the way she was pulling my hair up I couldn't tell what it looked like or how short it was. After a while, I asked her to stop because I noticed one side was significantly higher than what I had asked for. I then began to explain to her that this was way too short, but as I'm looking closer, I realize she had cut the front chunk of my hair off. I'm obviously upset as I have very thin long hair with a chunk missing from the front. While still explaining, I'm crying and getting overwhelmed as she keeps dismissing what I am saying and kept telling me that this is what I asked for and she needed to finish it. She said blending it would help, and at one point she told me I asked for a fringe when I very clearly and repeatedly asked for natural face framing. I honestly don’t know how long this goes on for, but I'd say about 20 minutes of her dismissing everything I am saying and getting defensive, saying she knows what she’s doing and she's only trying to do what I asked. When I told her repeatedly she hasn’t done what I asked in the first place, the entire time she was trying to argue back with me instead of owning up to her mistake. Her general lack of professionalism honestly made me never want to go to a hairdresser again. I ended up asking to have one of the other ladies fix my hair as I did not trust her to touch my hair anymore. I didn’t catch the other lady's name, but she was so lovely and understanding, even agreeing with me that what Cathie had done wasn’t right. I would love to think it’s a one-off, but with the way she responded and her lack of professionalism, it makes it hard to think so. I don’t want to slander this place or Cathie. I just want to share my experience and let others know. I'm not quite sure if this is the new standard for hair salons or not, but I came in to get a professional tidy up and came out with butchered hair. I had a fantastic experience at this shop with Arapeta (apologies if I've misspelled that) who dedicated ample time and attention to assist me in finding the perfect product to fill in my eyebrows after losing half of them during treatment. Walking out of the shop with my eyebrows done made me feel so self-assured, it truly brightened my day!
