As a Malaysian who had never experienced services from an Indian beauty salon, I must say this salon is outstanding. I recently started trying their services, beginning with a head massage, and I must admit the male masseur was exceptional (especially for head massages). I felt incredibly relaxed, and the head massage was truly rejuvenating. What a team! The female masseuses were equally fantastic. I also tried their full body Ayurveda massage. The female owner has always been very welcoming. This was my first experience at an Indian beauty salon, and now I'm a weekly visitor. Today I had an appointment with Cathie, it was my first time there and I went in asking for a well-needed trim/tidy up with a very natural face framing. I really emphasized on the natural as my hair is long and I personally don’t like it up around my face in general but also I need to tie it up for work. The initial hair cut was great until she started pulling my hair up and trimming away around my face. She showed me what she had done and I asked her if she could start the framing a little bit higher as it was past my chin. She starts trimming away but the way she was pulling my hair up I couldn't tell what it looked like or how short it was. After a while, I asked her to stop because I noticed one side was significantly higher than what I had asked for. I then began to explain to her that this was way too short, but as I'm looking closer, I realize she had cut the front chunk of my hair off. I'm obviously upset as I have very thin long hair with a chunk missing from the front. While still explaining, I'm crying and getting overwhelmed as she keeps dismissing what I am saying and kept telling me that this is what I asked for and she needed to finish it. She said blending it would help, and at one point she told me I asked for a fringe when I very clearly and repeatedly asked for natural face framing. I honestly don’t know how long this goes on for, but I'd say about 20 minutes of her dismissing everything I am saying and getting defensive, saying she knows what she’s doing and she's only trying to do what I asked. When I told her repeatedly she hasn’t done what I asked in the first place, the entire time she was trying to argue back with me instead of owning up to her mistake. Her general lack of professionalism honestly made me never want to go to a hairdresser again. I ended up asking to have one of the other ladies fix my hair as I did not trust her to touch my hair anymore. I didn’t catch the other lady's name, but she was so lovely and understanding, even agreeing with me that what Cathie had done wasn’t right. I would love to think it’s a one-off, but with the way she responded and her lack of professionalism, it makes it hard to think so. I don’t want to slander this place or Cathie. I just want to share my experience and let others know. I'm not quite sure if this is the new standard for hair salons or not, but I came in to get a professional tidy up and came out with butchered hair. I'm filled with regret after my visit to this place; it was one of the worst massage experiences I've ever had. I had extremely tight and sore shoulders that day and was seeking a massage or acupuncture session I could schedule after work. I stumbled upon this place by chance.
Upon arrival, a woman emerged from a house wearing a mini skirt and directed me to the back of the house. There was a small sleepout separate from the main house with a massage table inside. The same woman in the mini skirt returned and inquired about my preference from the menu for the day (I didn't expect her to be my masseuse). I explained that I had recently twisted my neck and the muscles around my neck and shoulders were very tight, needing some relief. She instructed me to lie down on the table and began massaging my back. I was anticipating increasing pressure gradually, but she continued with very light touches. When I requested stronger pressure, she used her elbow and applied excessive force, causing discomfort. It seemed like she lacked knowledge of bone and muscle structure, displaying inconsistency in her technique. She would focus on one area briefly before moving on to another, often resorting to pinching and patting (more like hitting due to the lack of pressure control). Fortunately, I didn't have enough cash on me as I had initially planned for a one-hour session but ended up cutting it short to 30 minutes. Thank you! 🙂 On the flip side, the staff at the Kowhai counter were quite unfriendly. They all seemed rather angry... quite intimidating! 😱 Luckily, we decided to make our purchase from the lovely Pohutukawa lady instead of the grumpy Kowhai counter staff...!! 😑

--- ABSOLUTELY NEVER RETURNING HERE!! The worst experience as a first-time customer. Received a gifted Hifu full face and neck treatment - a deal for 1 session at $399. Upon arrival, informed it was only for a full face. Showed the voucher to the Kiwi lady assigned to my treatment, she still insisted it was not for full face and neck, but agreed to do the neck secretly - without her boss knowing. Only treated the face up to the jawline, neglecting the neck. Gel applied to the neck, but no further action. Constant talk of returning for a special price when the boss wasn't present. Highly disappointing given the cost of $399, with barely noticeable results post-treatment and days later, no evidence of any treatment received.
