I arrived in a week ago and wanted to book something that offered great attention to cuticle and heel work. I discussed this at the counter and booked a mani and pedi which included all these things plus a massage.
The atmosphere is truly lovely and I feel it sets a scene that leads you to expect more than what the service actually delivers.
It's been a week now and my nails are already chipping and lifting, with a lot of skin tears around my nail.
The experience felt very rushed, with 2 people working on me and an electric tool used to buff (grind) my nails. I find this approach to be quite heavy-handed and causing significant damage to the nails. My nails became really hot and it was painful.
I would recommend some training on massage as I understand it won't be lengthy but that doesn't mean it shouldn't be good. It's been a week now and my nails are already lifting and chipping. I found it perplexing that he would turn away a potential customer when there was no one else waiting. I eventually had to leave. It's unfortunate, but I prefer loyalty to a barber once I find one. Was a loyal customer of About Face - especially the Dunedin branch - for years. Even flew back from Canada for treatments. Invested a lot in products, omnilux, etc. However, things took a turn last year - a series of Fraxel treatments left me with post-inflammatory pigmentation and triggered melasma (never experienced this before, no hormonal changes, everything checked). Now spent a fortune on dermatologist visits, peels, skin needling, high-dose vitamin C, hydroquinone, niacinamide, Tretinoin cream. What really hurt was the lack of acknowledgment. Won't be returning to this establishment.
